EPOCH African Foundation
Conducting research is a powerful way for Epoch African Foundation to inform evidence-based policies and interventions that promote the rights and well-being of women and girls in Nigeria and Africa as a whole. Some of our key research areas include:
Gender-Based Violence (GBV): We Conduct research on the prevalence, causes, and consequences of gender-based violence, including domestic violence, sexual harassment, and human trafficking. Explore effective strategies for prevention, intervention, and support for survivors.
Maternal and Reproductive Health: We Investigate maternal mortality rates, access to reproductive healthcare, and family planning services. Research the factors that impact maternal health outcomes and identify interventions to improve maternal and reproductive health.
Girls' Education: We Examine barriers to girls' education, such as school dropout rates, early marriage, and cultural norms. Research strategies to increase girls' enrollment and retention in schools and improve the quality of education they receive.
Economic Empowerment: We Study the economic challenges faced by women, including access to credit, employment opportunities, and fair wages. Research effective approaches to enhance women's economic empowerment and entrepreneurship.
Health Disparities: We Investigate health disparities affecting women and girls, including access to healthcare, nutrition, and mental health services. Identify strategies to reduce health disparities and improve overall well-being.
Child Marriage and FGM/C: We Research the prevalence of child marriage and female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) in the region, as well as the social and cultural factors contributing to these practices. Develop interventions to combat child marriage and FGM/C.
Political Participation: we Examine women's participation in politics and decision-making processes at the local, regional, and national levels. Identify barriers to political participation and strategies to increase women's representation in leadership roles.
Gender-Based Discrimination: We Investigate discriminatory laws, policies, and practices that perpetuate gender inequality. Advocate for legal reforms and social changes that promote gender equality and human rights.
Climate Change and Gender: We Explore the gendered impacts of climate change on women and girls, including their roles in agriculture and vulnerability to climate-related disasters. Develop strategies for gender-responsive climate adaptation and mitigation efforts.
Access to Justice: We Research access to justice for women and girls, including issues related to legal representation, gender-sensitive judicial processes, and barriers to reporting gender-based violence. Advocate for improved access to justice for survivors.
Cultural Norms and Social Change: We Study cultural norms and social attitudes that perpetuate gender inequality. Develop awareness campaigns and interventions to challenge harmful norms and promote gender equality.
Data Collection and Analysis: We Promote the collection and analysis of gender-disaggregated data across various sectors to better understand the specific needs and challenges faced by women and girls in different contexts.
Impact Evaluation: We Evaluate the effectiveness of programs and interventions aimed at promoting gender equality and women's empowerment to ensure resources are allocated efficiently and that desired outcomes are achieved.
Intersectionality: We Consider how factors such as race, ethnicity, class, disability, and sexual orientation intersect with gender to create unique challenges and opportunities for women and girls.
Policy Research: Conduct research on national and regional policies related to gender equality, identify gaps, and advocate for policy reforms that support women's and girls' rights.
